Are students on track to transfer into their intended major?

The Transfer Readiness model evaluates how well a student’s coursework aligns with the requirements of their intended transfer institution and major. By combining historical transfer outcomes with course-level analysis, the model identifies whether students are taking the right courses, at the right time, to support successful transfer and degree completion.

How It Works

Data-Driven Course Alignment

The Transfer Readiness model evaluates completed coursework to assess how prepared students are for their intended transfer program, focusing on courses most closely tied to post-transfer success.

Clear Readiness Levels

Students are grouped as Developing, On-Track, or Prepared based on progress through Relevant Courses, providing a simple, consistent signal of transfer readiness.

Relevant Courses, Defined by Outcomes

Relevant Courses are identified using post-transfer outcomes (not static maps) and ranked by their relationship to persistence, GPA, and degree progress.

Built for Advising and Action

The model supports proactive advising by identifying students who may need support before transfer and guiding course planning, including for undecided majors.

Note: The number of Relevant Courses varies by major, though most programs include five.

The Impact

Clearer Pathways for Students

Transfer Readiness helps students understand whether their coursework is aligned with their intended transfer institution and major. By clarifying which courses matter most, the model reduces uncertainty, excess credits, and the risk of misalignment before transfer occurs.
