Brandon McKelvey, Ph.D., Attends the Florida College System Commissioner’s Summit for Accelerating Access to DE

Brandon McKelvey, Ph.D., attended the Florida College System Commissioner’s Summit for Accelerating Access to Dual-Enrollment in the Miami Education Ecosystem

The Florida College System is the primary access point for more than 640,000 Floridians pursuing post-secondary education, associate degrees, and high school students pursuing dual enrollment education. The Commissioner’s Summit was hosted at the Wolfson Campus of Miami Dade College (MDC) and brought together thought leaders from the 28 Florida College System (FCS) and many Florida school districts who shared their work to improve participation and student success in dual-enrollment programs.

The topics discussed included an overview of the current state of dual enrollment in Florida, a review of performance data to identify areas of progress, and opportunities for improvement as well as career dual-enrollment opportunities for students.

Brandon shared how the CFEED partners are analyzing Dual-Enrollment (DE) participation of students in Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) and School District of Osceola County (SDOC) that have demonstrated post-secondary and dual-enrollment readiness.

Data from their CFEED projects includes analytics on 17,326 students expected to graduate from high school after the 2022-2023 school year. The CFEED analytics can identify college readiness for students who took 4-5 advanced core curriculum (Tier 1) courses and received at least a 3.0 GPA.
